Phillip David Groves Jr., 67, of Gardner, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Phillip was born July 26, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois, to Phillip David Groves, Sr. and Mona Lee (Keistler) Groves. He graduated from Chaffee High School in 1977.Phillip married Jeannie Tankersley on June 23, 1979, in Chaffee, Missouri. They built a life and family together that spanned more than 47 years.
Phillip proudly served as a veteran of the United States Army from 1988 to 1993. He worked as a warehouse manager and retired in July 2026.Phillip had a lifelong passion for track and field and spent time as a track coach in Chaffee. He also enjoyed playing poker, beach vacations,
and working outside in his yard and garden. He took pride in caring for his home, tending to his garden, and spending time outdoors. But above all else, he loved his family. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, Maddie and Finley McNeer. He adored his girls, spoiled them endlessly, and treasured every moment with them. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mona Groves.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Groves of Gardner, Kansas; his children, Loren (Aaron) McNeer of Gardner, Kansas, and Phillip (Morgan) Groves III of Kansas City, Missouri; his brother, Kevin (Cindy) Groves of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and his beloved grandchildren, Maddie and Finley McNeer.
Phillip will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Condolences may be left at Bruce Funeral Home.
