Nancy Louise Bolton Swartz, 78, of Freeman, Missouri, passed away on September 15, 2026, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, following complications due to cancer.
Nancy was born on November 5, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold and Madge Bolton. Throughout her life, Nancy called several places home, including Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri; Guam; Overland Park, Kansas; and Freeman, Missouri.
Nancy earned associate degrees in graphic design from Johnson County Community College and went on to work as a graphic design artist for Black & Veatch. After a fulfilling career, she retired to embrace what she fondly called being a full-time “Nana,” a role that brought her tremendous joy.
Creative by nature, Nancy had a passion for quilting, sewing, designing, cooking, and traveling. Her creativity extended into nearly everything she did, and she will be remembered for her intelligence, humor, compassion, and impeccable taste. Above all, Nancy had a warm smile for everyone she met.
Nancy was also an active member of her community throughout her life. She contributed her time and talents to the PTA, Cub Scouts, a quilting guild, and Village Presbyterian Church. Her Presbyterian faith remained an important part of her life.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Donald Craig Swartz; her sons, Jeff Swartz of Tampa, Florida, and Randy Swartz and his wife, Marci, of Freeman, Missouri; her grandchildren, Emily Swartz, Jadyn Swartz, Conner Swartz, and Sawyer Swartz; and her sister, Barb Davidson of Moorhead, Minnesota. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, their spouses, and their children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Madge Bolton; her brother, Steve Bolton; her beloved grandparents; and her cousins, Chuck Bolton and Carson Bolton.
A funeral service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Village Presbyterian Church, located at 67th Street and Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kansas. The service will be officiated by site pastor Anna Owens. A reception will follow at Village Presbyterian Church. A visitation will follow the same day, Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s honor to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care or Wayside Waifs.
Nancy and Don would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this November, something of which they were both immensely proud. Nancy’s life was marked by creativity, warmth, humor, compassion, and a deep love for her family. Whether she was designing, sewing, quilting, traveling, cooking, serving her community, or simply enjoying her treasured role as Nana, she brought care and creativity to the people and things she loved. Her warm smile and loving presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
