Robert “Bob” James Nash, 72, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on June 5, 2026.
Robert was born on September 16, 1953, to Robert and Julia Nash in Reno, Nevada. Robert graduated from Ruskin High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1971. He then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years, enlisting in 1972 and retiring in 1994 as a Master Sergeant. During his military career, he was stationed at several locations including McClellan AFB, California; Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Missouri; Beale Air Force Base, California; Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; and finally at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. He also served short tours in Alaska and Iceland.
Robert’s Air Force specialty was Computer Systems Operations where he functioned as the communications security manager for several years. His dedicated service was recognized with the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
Following his military retirement, Robert returned to the Kansas City area and made Shawnee his home. He was a hard-working man who took pride in his work and enjoyed working on his home. One of his favorite pastimes was bowling, and he participated in several bowling leagues throughout the years. Among his bowling accomplishments was a 299 game, leaving just one pin standing. The achievement earned him the nickname “Ten Pin,” a name that reflected both his accomplishment and his love of the sport. Robert was also an avid Kansas City sports fan, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals each season.
Robert is survived by Carol Nash, the mother of his sons, who shared his home in Shawnee during the last six years of his life; his sons Jeremy Nash and his wife Brandi, and Bryan Nash; his granddaughters, Juliana Nash and Chloe Webb-Nash; his older sister, Sheryl Nash; his twin sister, Rebecca Atwell and her husband Rob; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Riley Nash and Julia Elsie (Eddy) Nash.
A brief memorial service followed by burial with full military honors was held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas.
