Lenexa
Marion Marie Shore Snyder, 99, of Lenexa, KS went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026.
Marion was born on August 5,1927 to Glenwood and Mary Etta Shore in Liberal, KS. She was born to a Kansas farm family, the 5th of seven children, who lived during the dust bowl. They suffered the frightening dust storms which darkened daylight into darkness of night and suffered the loss of home and possessions during the depression. They were able to begin a new life in Norwich, KS where she spent most of her childhood and graduated from Norwich High School. After attending business college in Wichita, she worked in an officefor a year, then had a decision to make – use the money she had saved to learn to fly like her brothers had done or go to Bethany Peniel College to study. She couldn’t afford to do both, so she chose Bethany, which turned out to be the very best decision. That first day on campus, in the “S” enrollment line, she met a young man just home from the army, Bill Snyder. Six months later they were married on a snowy March 6, 1948.
Marion and Bill moved to Kansas City, MO, where Marion began a typing job in her home for Dr. Ralph Earle. She and Bill raised three children, Donna Kay, Gregory Dean and Debra Sue. Although money was tight, she felt her first and foremost job was to be a mother and be home to raise her children. When all three children were in school, she began a part-time job at Nazarene Publishing House, which became full-time when the children were older. In the visual art department, she scheduled evangelists for revivals around the country. She also organized all Nazarene district assembly book sales and scheduled the assembly representatives. She so enjoyed working with the evangelists and counted this as a ministry and very fulfilling career.
Central Church of the Nazarene was always a large part of Marion’s life. Missions was her love and she served as missionary president for 25 years. She sang in the choir for over 60 years, organized many church dinners and, of course, was there every time the church doors were open. She loved her church and her pastors! In the years after retirement, she led women’s Bible studies and organized the door greeters until well into her 90s.
Marion deeply loved being with her family and continued to have the entire family of over 30 for a Christmas meal every year in their small home until she was in her early 90s. She had the gift of hospitality. She was always happiest when cooking wonderful meals and serving at her table. Apple pies were her specialty!
Marion was preceded in death by her parents and six of her seven siblings, her loving husband, Bill, and her granddaughter, Kristen Jodi (Kristi). She is survived by her brother, Carl, her children and their spouses, Donna (Terry), Greg (Debbie), Deb (Brian), 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
