July 16, 1938 – September 19, 2026
David R Voysey, age 88, of Overland Park, KS, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Merriam Gardens in Merriam, Kansas.
Born near Philadelphia, PA, to Alfred and Revilla Voysey, David lived at 8 different addresses before graduating from high school. Most of his stories came from his time living at the Watertown Arsenal during WWII, on Waltham street in West Newton MA, and in Idaho Falls, ID where his father was an engineer working on the nuclear engine for the USS Nautilus.
After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, David attended the University of Idaho where he met a cute co-ed named Mimi Wood. He enlisted in the army in 1961, was stationed at Fort Sill, OK, married Mimi in 1962, and returned to the University of Idaho to finish his mechanical engineering degree in 1963.
David was hired by Colgate Palmolive in California after graduation. Four transfers later (New Jersey, Kansas, Tokyo, Japan, and back to Kansas) Dave retired from Colgate as the plant manager of the plant in KC, KS in 1986.
When he wasn’t working, David enjoyed being creative. He liked to sketch landscapes and people, learned to make wood block prints, created winterscapes for the model train set, and most of all spent time in his workshop “making sawdust”. Out of that sawdust arose a play house with a Dutch door, a Barbie house, bookshelves, bed frames, and cabinets among other things for his children and grandchildren
After Colgate, Dave and Mimi bought Gieske, a sheet metal company, and enjoyed working together for several years.
When Dave actually retired, he volunteered at Rolling Hills Church, sang in the church choir, and golfed as much as possible at Indian Hills Country Club. He and Mimi enjoyed gardening together and spending time at their house on Cape Cod.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara, his brother Stephen, and his beloved wife, Marie (Mimi) Voysey. He is survived by three children, Linda Sizemore (Rich), Suzanne Rucker (Mark), and David E Voysey, ten grandchildren, and six great grandchildren with two more on the way.
A small memorial service will be held at a later date.
