Spring Hill firefighters rescue…. an iguana?

Tasslehoff the iguana was missing for a week before witnesses spotted him in a tree near the Spring Hill Sports Complex.

Firefighters in Spring Hill assisted with an unusual rescue on Wednesday evening.

We’ve all heard about firefighters rescuing cats from trees, but this time it was an iguana named Tasslehoff.

Johnson County Consolidated Fire District No. 1 Public Information Officer Matt Gillotti said 9-year-old Tasslehoff escaped from his owner a week ago and has been missing ever since.

Firefighters were notified just before 6 p.m. that Tasslehoff had been located high up in a tree in the 200 block of W. Allen Street, just south of the Spring Hill Sports Complex.

Gillotti says Tasslehoff weighs between 30 and 40 pounds, is 3 feet long, and is very sweet.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach him, approximately 35-45 feet up the tree.

With help from a catch pole borrowed from the Spring Hill Police Department, firefighters plucked Tasslehoff from his perch and carried him down the ladder to his very appreciative owner.
