Earlier this summer, the Post asked our readers what issues you wanted to hear candidates in federal, state and local races address leading up to the Nov. 3 election.
Based on that feedback, we developed a five-item questionnaire centering the issues most important to residents across Johnson County.
Each day this week, we’ve published the candidates’ responses to one question. So far, we’ve published responses on what the job is for, immigration enforcement, prosecuting voter fraud, and scams, fraud and privacy.
Today, we’re publishing candidates’ responses to the final question:
Readers come at this from both directions: Some support limits on transgender people’s access to restrooms and the sex listed on their IDs, while others want to see the state taking proactive steps to protect LGBTQ Kansans, especially young people. This year’s Senate Bill 244 restricts bathroom use in public buildings by sex assigned at birth and invalidates driver’s licenses that had been changed to match transgender Kansans’ gender identity. Do you support this law? How should the office handle disputes with school districts over parental notification and students’ gender identity?
Below are the answers the Post received from candidates on the issue:
Chris Mann (Democratic)
Did not provide the Post with a response.
Kris Kobach (Republican, incumbent)
Did not provide the Post with a response.
