Teen breaks leg in e-bike crash in front of pickup truck in western Lenexa

The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital, where he was reportedly in stable condition.

A Lenexa teenager has a broken leg after crashing an electric bicycle on Wednesday evening.

The Lenexa Police Department’s calls for service log shows that officers were called to the intersection of Deer Run Street and Brownridge Street at 7:01 p.m. for an injury accident.

The intersection is in The Trails of Timber Rock neighborhood, about a half-mile north of Prairie Star Parkway and Lone Elm Road in western Lenexa.

Recorded radio traffic indicates that a 13-year-old boy was riding an E-bike across the road when he crashed in front of a pickup truck.

It’s unclear if the truck hit the teen or stopped just short of hitting him. The driver stopped and stayed with the boy while calling for help.

Radio traffic indicated the boy’s injuries included a broken leg. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

A Johnson County Med-Act ambulance took him to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, where he was reportedly in stable condition.

No other details were immediately available.
