Witnesses told police the northbound SUV veered off Roe Avenue and struck a fence before stopping at 66th Terrace.

A 39-year-old man died after a single-vehicle crash in Prairie Village on Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release, Prairie Village Police spokesperson Capt. Josh Putthoff said officers responded to the intersection of 66th Terrace and Roe Avenue at about 1:50 p.m.

“The initial investigation indicated that a Chevrolet SUV was traveling northbound in the 6700 block of Roe Avenue,” Putthoff said. “Witnesses observed the vehicle veer off of the roadway and strike a fence before coming to a stop at the intersection.”

Recorded radio traffic from arriving firefighters reported that the SUV was heavily damaged and one person was being treated.

The driver, who police have so far only identified as a 39-year-old man, died at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
