Alan Jon Schneider, lovingly known as Big Al, peacefully passed away at home on October 25, 2026, at the age of 72, leaving a family who loved him deeply and will miss him beyond words.

Born in Ellsworth, Kansas, to Elmer and Velma Schneider (Schaefer), Al earned his bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University and later attended San Fransisco College of Mortuary Science school. He worked as a mortician in the Ellsworth and Denver areas before becoming a shipping and receiving manager at DOT Label in Gardner, Kansas.

On February 19, 1983, Al married Cheryl Ann Coddington, his favorite person. More than 43 years later, she still held the top spot. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and memories.

Al was a man of few words with a quick wit and a love for life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching a good game, grilling something delicious, and working in the yard with his favorite tunes playing. At the card table, he was a master at pitch…

and never too modest to tell you.

Al’s children and grandchildren were an important part of his life. He enjoyed watching them grow, sharing in their accomplishments, and simply spending time together.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan McAtee; his nephew, Collin McAtee, and many other relatives and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl, of the home; his son, Jon Schneider, and wife, Aubrey; his daughter, Krista Johnson, and husband, Nick; his six grandchildren, Austyn and Bennie Schneider, and Ava, Mila, Cordell, and Kolton Johnson; and his sister, Jan Fox.

His family will miss his voice, his quiet presence, and the comfort of knowing he was just a call away. They will laugh through the tears, treasure their memories, and wish for one more hug. Loving him was easy. Saying goodbye is the hard part. Through their grief, they find comfort in Jesus, the promise of eternal life, and the hope of being together again.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service at Fellowship Bible Church, 16900 S. Waverly Road, Gardner, KS 66030.

Lunch and fellowship will follow at Hampton Inn Gardner Conference Center, 151 S. Cedar Niles Road, Gardner, KS 66030.
