Gary “GW” Schmeck, age 76, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026, in Overland Park, KS. Born on January 30, 1950, in Argentine, KS, GW lived a life as vibrant as the music he loved.
A proud Railroad Switchman by trade, Gary could manage trains with the same flair he brought to his many musical pursuits. A true rock star at heart, GW was a multifaceted musician and a dedicated live-music junkie—always ready to crank up the volume.
Alzheimer’s may have tried to dim his mind, but those who know GW know that his his personality remained bright and his humor never lost its edge.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Schmeck; mother, Doris (Roberts) Schmeck; and brother, Paul Schmeck. Left behind to keep the music playing are his loving partner Linda Kent, daughter Baylee Brewer, and sister Teresa Schmeck, along with countless friends and bandmates.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Amos Family Funeral Home at 10901 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS on November 14, 2026 from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in honor of GW’s journey.
