Taco Republic closes its last Kansas City area location in Prairie Village

With the closure of its Prairie Village location, Taco Republic no longer has any presence in the Kansas City metro area.

A Prairie Village taco eatery has officially closed its doors and exited the Kansas City area.

On Thursday, Taco Republic closed at the Corinth Square shopping center, after roughly five years there.

Taco Republic was at 4100 W. 83rd St.

  • The restaurant occupied a space on the west side of the Corinth Square shopping center, near the Hen House grocery store.
  • Taco Republic opened there in June 2021.
  • Via an emailed statement, Whitney VinZant (owner of W. VinZant Restaurants), said the closure came from a desire for Taco Republic to focus on other avenues.
  • “While our physical storefront in Corinth Square is closing, we will continue to serve the greater Prairie Village area through the Taco Republic Trucks – Catering & Private Events,” the statement said. “We determined our best strategy for Taco Republic is to focus on the strong demand for such catering and events.”

This was Taco Republic’s last open location

The closure of the Prairie Village location follows another Taco Republic closure in 2023, off County Line Road in Kansas City, Kansas (near Roeland Park).

The restaurant, offering tacos and other items like nachos and margaritas, is owned by local restaurant group W. VinZant Restaurants. The restaurant group owns several Kansas City area restaurant concepts, including Italian eatery Va Bene, which also closed at Corinth Square earlier this year.

Something else recently opened nearby

  • The closure of Taco Republic follows the arrival of another Mexican-inspired eatery, Casa Ama, to Corinth Square this year.
  • That restaurant is under the same ownership as local healthy eatery Billie’s Grocery, which has a location in Leawood and will soon open another in Overland Park.
  • Casa Ama serves dishes inspired by multiple cultures, including items like chicken caesar tacos, birra bowls and fried branzino.
