Earlier this summer, the Post asked our readers what issues you wanted to hear candidates running for Blue Valley Board of Education to address leading up to the Nov. 4 election.
Based on that feedback, we developed a five-item questionnaire centering the issues most important to the Blue Valley community.

Background: Readers want to know something of your background. Briefly explain your education and employment history and how those experiences qualify you for this job. Readers also want to know if you currently have or in the past have had children go to schools in the district you seek to represent.

Gina Knapp (incumbent)
I have built my career in finance and nonprofit leadership, currently serving as a Chief Financial Officer. I hold master’s degrees in Finance and Entrepreneurship and have years of experience managing complex budgets, ensuring accountability, and making decisions that balance limited resources with the needs of the community. Those skills translate directly to the responsibility of overseeing a school district’s finances and policies.
I also have children who attend schools in this district, giving me firsthand knowledge of the strengths and challenges within our schools. Beyond being a parent, I have been actively engaged in supporting student activities, volunteering, and working with other families to strengthen our school community. These experiences give me a well-rounded perspective on how board decisions impact students, teachers, and families alike. Both my professional expertise and my deep community involvement prepare me to continue to serve effectively and responsibly on the school board.

Jim McMullen (incumbent)
I was born and raised in Johnson County. I have a B.S from Georgetown University and a law degree from Kansas University. Before law school I was an English teacher in rural Mississippi and in the Washington D.C. public schools. I was a writing instructor during law school. Thereafter, I practiced corporate law for many years before establishing an investment banking firm. I am also Chairman of a Kansas City-based truck & trailer parts distribution business. My wife and I have been married for 29 years and have five children and two grandchildren. Four of our children have attended the Blue Valley Schools.
