UMB Bank completes acquisition of Bank of Blue Valley

Bank of Blue Valley, which used to be under the umbrella of Heartland Financial USA Inc., has officially transitioned to fall under the UMB Bank brand.

An Overland Park-based bank has officially become part of a larger Kansas City, Missouri-based brand.

Bank of Blue Valley previously operated under the umbrella of Heartland Financial USA Inc., after the Iowa-based company acquired Bank of Blue Valley in 2019.

UMB Financial Corporation recently completed its systems and brand conversion of Heartland Financial USA Inc., which owned multiple other banks across the country as well.

The acquisition closed in January

  • The transaction serves as the largest acquisition in UMB’s 112-year history, according to an October news release.
  • “Our combined company is performing extremely well as evidenced by our second quarter earnings results,” said Mariner Kemper, chairman and chief executive officer of UMB Financial Corporation. “We’ve gained great talent and are already seeing business wins and strong camaraderie among the teams.”

The transition is official as of October

  • Bank of Blue Valley’s former branches (of which there were five in Johnson County) are now officially operating under the UMB brand.
  • Bank of Blue Valley’s customers have been fully integrated into UMB’s systems and can access their accounts at any UMB branch or its online banking platform.
  • UMB customers also now have access to an expanded banking network, with about 190 branches and roughly 340 ATMs in the continental United States.

Officials say the transition has been successful

  • The acquisition expanded UMB’s footprint from eight to 13 states, according to the release.
  • So far, officials say with UMB say the newly transitioned operations have been successful.
  • “This is a monumental day as we move forward as a unified company from both an operational and brand perspective,” said Kemper, via the October release. “We are excited to grow with these communities, bringing our expertise, an expanded team and enhanced products and services to further build upon these relationships and provide even more impact.”
