The start of a new year means the addition of another local coffee shop to Overland Park — this one specializing in Arabic coffee.
Locally owned Turath Arabic Coffee is gearing up to open its doors in the coming weeks in Overland Park, just south of Corporate Woods.
Turath Arabic Coffee is coming to 9916 College Blvd.
- The coffee shop will occupy a space just off College Boulevard and Mastin Street, near Italian restaurant Garozzo’s and fast-casual eatery Chipotle.
- Breakfast and brunch restaurant First Watch previously occupied that space, before it closed roughly four years ago.
- While hours are still being finalized, co-owner Loai Nasser said the shop’s hours will be long, going as late as 10 p.m.
Turath Arabic Coffee will serve Arabic coffee drinks
Turath Arabic Coffee will serve drinks favored in Arab coffee culture — cardamom, cinnamon and pistachio, to name a few.
The word “turath” means “heritage” or “legacy” in Arabic.
Turath Arabic Coffee is a family affair, with Loai Nasser’s brother, Waseem Nasser, and sisters Sarah Awwad and Sawsan Awwad coming on board as co-owners of the shop.
The menu at Turath Arabic Coffee will offer a wide variety of coffee drinks — ultimately, Loai Nasser said; a little something for everyone. In addition to coffee, the shop also plans to serve locally made pastries.
“We’re gonna have all the (traditional) coffee drinks, and then we’re gonna have quite a few specialty drinks with different kinds of tastes and ingredients,” he said.
Something similar is coming nearby
Further south in Overland Park, another local coffee shop, Mocha Point, is preparing to open its doors.
The shop at 8641 W. 135th St. will focus specifically on Yemeni coffee and is planning an early 2026 opening.
The shop debuted in St. Charles, Missouri, and this shop will mark Mocha Point’s first one in Johnson County.
