No, the Fairway Hen House isn’t closing. It’s getting a ‘glow up’

When it reopens in February, the Fairway grocery store will have multiple new features.

A Fairway grocery store will soon shutter — but only for now.

On Sunday, the Hen House grocery store at the historic Fairway Shops will close. But come Feb. 7, after undergoing a “glow up”, the store will reopen with some new features.

Hen House is at 2724 W. 53rd St.

  • The grocery store is just off Shawnee Mission Parkway and Belinder Avenue.
  • There, it operates near breakfast eatery First Watch and coffee shop Front Range.
  • Hen House, owned by Kansas City-based Balls Foods Inc., operates eight grocery stores in Johnson County, including the one in Fairway.

Hen House is adding new grocery offerings

  • According to a release this week, the grocery store will have multiple new offerings when it reopens in February.
  • That includes some new deli items, an international food bar, and a bakery with European-inspired pastries, sandwiches and Tippins pies.
  • The store will offer a “farmers-market-style” produce section with expanded organic options and seasonal selections from more than 50 local growers.

Hen House is also adding new wellness items

  • The grocery store is also adding a new department called “The Apothecary”, with offerings focused on health and wellness.
  • The section will feature “curated superfoods, functional beverages, and nutraceuticals”, as well as specialty items like olive oils, soups, and healthy snacks like dried fruit and protein bars.
  • Hen House recently launched this new concept inside the store at Corinth Square in Prairie Village, with plans to add it to more of the brand’s stores this year.
