The revitalization of the 47th Street corridor that runs between Westwood and Kansas City, Kan., will get a significant boost in the coming weeks as two anticipated restaurants move into the NorthWood Shopping Center.

Memphis-based Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is set to open its first Kansas City-area location in the strip mall sometime in February. And 1889 Pizza Napoletana, the vision of owners Jason and Kelli Kolich, is expected to start offering 12” Neapolitan pizzas from a traditional wood-fired Italian pizza oven sometime in March.

LANE4 Property Group started its purchase of the run-down strip mall previously known as the Fairway North Shopping Center in late 2014, and spent much of 2015 renovating the property. Westwood, Roeland Park and Kansas City, Kan., formed a joint task force more than two years ago to collaborate on ways to revitalize the area.

In addition to the revamping of the NorthWood center, the area has seen the opening of Taco Republic and Lulu’s Asian Bistro as well as the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
