AT&T announced today that its GigaPower high speed internet and cable television service is now available to customers in parts of Prairie Village, Mission Hills and Fairway.

The announcement comes as AT&T and Google jockey for position in the Kansas City market, with AT&T moving to deploy its own service before Google in pockets of the area despite announcing its high-speed play well after Google.

GigaPower is already available in parts of of Leawood, Lenexa, Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee in Kansas. AT&T told the Roeland Park City Council in June that it will be building out the high-speed network in that city over the next two years.

Google’s Fiber service has had sign up periods in Westwood, Westwood Hills, Mission Woods, Roeland Park and Merriam so far in NEJC. The first Google service to the house began earlier this year in the Westwood area and early this summer in Roeland Park. The company’s website says that sign up periods for other parts of northeast Johnson County are expected in 2016.
