Briefly Noted: Gov. Kelly taps Stratton, Herndon for appointments; St. Joseph Parish bazaar set for this weekend

SMSD board president Brad Stratton is among the appointees to the Kansas Confirmation Oversight Committee.

Governor appoints two Shawnee Mission area residents to state boards. Governor Laura Kelly this week submitted appointments for a variety of state bodies to the Senate’s Confirmation Oversight Committee, including two Shawnee Mission area residents. David Herndon of Shawnee, a Republican, was tapped to become a Kansas Bank Commissioner; and Brad Stratton of Overland Park, an independent, is tapped for the KPERS Board of Trustees. The appointments will be taken up by the committee before being put to the Senate for final approval.

St. Joseph parish Gift and Craft Bazaar set for Saturday. The annual St. Joseph Parish Ladies’ Guild Gift and Craft Bazaar is set for this Saturday, Oct. 19. The bazaar will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in McDevitt Hall at the church, 11311 Johnson Dr. With more than 50 tables of items on display, there are hundreds of gifts and crafts, from jewelry to antiques to home decor and handmade religious items. The event also features a raffle for an “Exploring Shawnee” gift basket. A continental breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.
