We’ve made it to the end of another week, Johnson County! Kyle here with a rundown for this Friday.

Forecast: ? High: 98, Low: 76. Sunny and very steamy, with heat indexes expected to break 100. A heat advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight. There is a chance for some rain this morning. 

Diversions

  • KC Fringe Fest 2022, the annual artistic celebration of the avant-garde and adventurous, is back with live in-person performances this year at more than a dozen locations across KCMO. Starting tonight, performances run through July 31. Find out more information.
  • He may be from the ‘Lou and proud but rapper Nelly is at the Kansas City Power and Light District tonight for a performance at 8 p.m. Limited remaining tickets start at $67.
  • The city of Roeland Park is hosting another free concert at R Park Saturday night with a performance by AnnaLee and the Lucky So-and-So’s. The gathering starts at 6 p.m. and the music goes live at 7 p.m.
  • Shawnee hosts its Dive-In Movie Night Saturday night at the Thomas Soetaert Aquatic Center with a showing of the classic film “Jaws.” The event is free but patrons are asked to bring a canned food item for donation. Here’s more information.
  • Women’s pro soccer team KC Current host OL Reign on Sunday evening at Children’s Mercy Park in KCK. Remaining tickets start at $17.

Noteworthy

  • U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids’s campaign reported raising more than $1 million in the second quarter of this year and now has $3.4 million in cash on hand heading into the final few months before November’s general election. Meanwhile, Davids’ presumptive Republican opponent Amanda Adkins touted her endorsement by the sheriff of Franklin County, one of three mostly rural counties now part of the redrawn Third District.
  • Kansas transportation officials are now targeting a September groundbreaking for construction work to begin on adding toll lanes going both directions on U.S. 69 Highway in Overland Park south of 103rd Street.
  • The organizers of the Parade of Hearts art display say an auction of dozens of the five-foot-tall fiberglass painted hearts raised more than $2.5 million for charity. Some 150 of the hearts, all designed and decorated by local artists, were on display for weeks around the Kansas City metro. [Fox 4]
