Blue Valley North has named Mill Valley High’s defensive coordinator Drew Hudgins as its newest head football coach.
Hudgins, who has helped lead the Mill Valley program to six state football titles since 2015, will follow in the footsteps of former coach Adam Pummill, who announced his resignation earlier this school year.
Hudgins was with Mill Valley for 12 years
- During Hudgins’ last seven years as the team’s defensive coordinator, the USD 232 high school took home four straight Class 5A state championships.
- “Mill Valley has been my home for the past 12 years and I have been beyond grateful for all of my time here,” Hudgins wrote in his farewell statement on Twitter.
- Hudgins graduated from the University of Colorado and has a master’s degree from Pittsburg State University.

He has earned numerous recognitions
- In 2021, Hudgins was named the Kansas Football Coaches Association Assisted Coach of the year.
- He has also been awarded Dave Bassore Man of the Year and Sports in Kansas Assistant Coach of the Year throughout his football coaching career.
- “Coach Hudgins is excited to get to work and has big plans for the entire North Community,” officials wrote on Blue Valley North Mustangs’ Twitter page. “We look forward to sharing spring and summer plans soon.”
Hudgins is replacing former coach Adam Pummill
- In November 2022, Pummill announced his resignation following a disappointing season in which the Mustangs were 1-8.
- He had taken over the job in 2021 after serving as the Blue Valley North’s offensive coordinator the previous three seasons.
- “It was an incredibly difficult decision,” Pummill previously told the Post. “Even though we had some challenging times on the field, there were also moments of fighting adversity and sticking together.”
