Stroud’s Express shuts down, ending Mission ‘experiment’

Stroud’s Express & Catering, a carryout-focused spin-off of the iconic Kansas City pan-fried chicken restaurant, has closed for good in downtown Mission.

The move comes less than two years after the concept opened at 5405 Johnson Drive in the space formerly occupied by Lucky Brewgrille.

Stroud’s last day in Mission was April 16

  • A press release from restaurant group KC Hopps, which owns Strouds’s, says the restaurant “has chosen not to renew their lease in Mission.”
  • A Google search of the restaurant also shows the Mission location is permanently closed, and its Facebook page has also been deleted.
  • “We thank all our guests for their amazing support over the last few years,” the press release reads. “We also want to thank Steve Choikhit, our landlord, for being a great partner and for supporting our success. We wish Steve and the next tenant in this location all the best.”

The restaurant is looking for a new location

  • KC Hopps’ release said it will continue looking for a 2,500- to 3,000-square-foot space for a new location.
  • “The Stroud’s Express & Catering experiment was a success and we will be looking for a long term home for our business,” the company says.
  • The company also lists a Stroud’s Express in Lee’s Summit, Mo., that also appears to be closed.
