More shakeups at Shawnee Station complex, as 2 national retailers move in

Two new national retailers are expected to open soon in the Shawnee Station shopping center off Shawnee Mission Parkway.

Denise Ferro, a managing agent with Shawnee Station’s primary leaser Rubenstein Real Estate Co., told the Post a handful of new businesses are “hustling to get open” later this summer. That includes beauty care retailer Bath & Body Works and discount chain Five Below.

The retail shopping strip sits in a prominent location between Maurer and Lackman roads on Shawnee Mission Parkway, just east of I-435.

Five Below is taking over a long-vacant spot

  • The low-cost retailer geared toward younger patrons will open at 15300 Shawnee Mission Pkwy. sometime later this summer or early in the fall, Ferro said.
  • Previously, the storefront was home to a Pier 1 Imports home good store.
  • This space has been empty for sometime and has occasionally been used as a seasonal Spirit of Halloween store.

There have been other recent Shawnee Station shakeups

  • Following the national chain’s bankruptcy earlier this year, the Bed, Bath & Beyond here — a long-time tenant of Shawnee Station — closed its doors.
  • In the spring, Ross Dress for Less, a discount retailer, opened in the former Office Max space next door to Target
  • Rack Room Shoes is also expected to open in the old Famous Footwear space sometime in early July. Right now, facade upgrades and other renovations are underway.
  • Chase Bank also has plans to open a new stand-alone branch at 15440 Shawnee Mission Parkway, between the IHOP and T-Mobile buildings.
  • Additionally, renovations are ongoing at the Rally House location at 15420 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, which opened last year.
