Florida-based Smokin’ Oak pizzeria on its way to Olathe

The "wood-fired" pizzas make their Kansas City area debut in the Olathe Station shopping center at 119th Street and Strang Line Road.

A Florida-based pizzeria seems to have set its sights on Johnson County.

Smokin’ Oak Wood-Fired Pizza & Taproom plans to make its local debut with a new location in Olathe.

Smokin’ Oak is coming to 15241 W. 119th St.

  • The pizzeria has filed plans to move into a space at the Olathe Station shopping center, on the southeast corner of 119th Street and Strang Line Road.
  • Burger chain Smashburger previously occupied that space, until it closed at the end of 2024.
  • According to Smokin’ Oak’s website, the new Olathe spot is aiming for a fall opening later this year.

Smokin’ Oak serves a variety of “wood-fired” pizzas

  • The menu at Smokin’ Oak features pizzas like the “san marino” (with crushed tomato sauce, goat cheese, mozzarella, prosciutto, garlic, crushed red pepper and fresh spinach) and the “chicken presto” (pesto sauce, mozzarella, chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, kalamata olives, and parmesan).
  • Customers can also build their own pizzas with a variety of cheese, meats, spices and veggies.
  • In addition to its pizza, Smokin’ Oak also serves other items like salads, garlic cheese bread, and sweets like cinnamon glazed knots and apple pie.

This marks the first Smokin’ Oak location in Johnson County

  • The Olathe location will also serve as the first in the wider Kansas City metro area for the Florida-based chain.
  • Founders Matt Mongoven and Linda Black developed the Smokin’ Oak brand in 2016, after Black opened her own pizzeria, Pi Wood-fired Pizza, in 2009.
  • Today, Smokin’ Oak has locations in six states, in addition to the incoming Olathe location.
