Women’s boutique Clairvaux is moving to Prairie Village

The locally owned boutique will replace Chico's, which is closing its Prairie Village location after 25 years.

A national woman’s clothing brand is leaving its Prairie Village space — but a local clothing store is coming in behind it.

Women’s boutique Clairvaux, which got its start in Fairway, will pick up shop and move into the space. If all goes according to plan, owner Joni Johnson said Clairvaux will reopen in its new digs in spring 2026.

Vacating the space is Florida-based clothing retailer Chico’s, which plans to close at the Shops of Prairie Village by the end of October.

Clairvaux is coming to 71st Street and Mission Road

  • The shop is moving into a space at the Shops of Prairie Village, near French restaurant Café Provence and sandwich shop Goodcents.
  • Chico’s has operated in that space for roughly 25 years.
  • Once Clairvaux reopens in its new Prairie Village shop, its hours will be the same as in Fairway — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A blend of “Parisian chic” and “California cool”

  • The boutique carries women’s clothing and accessories from a variety of emerging and established designers. Johnson seeks to blend “Parisian chic with California cool,” according to the boutique’s website.
  • Customers at Clairvaux can find clothing items like jackets, dresses, sweaters and coats — as well as accessories like necklaces, bracelets, handbags, scarves and sunglasses.
  • In addition to the retail side, Clairvaux also offers personal styling services like home closet “edits” (for removal of outdated items) and in-store styling.

Clairvaux was in Fairway for five years

The shop’s flagship location debuted at the historic Fairway Shops in 2020.

Then in 2022, Clairvaux expanded southward with a shop at the Hawthorne Plaza shopping center in Overland Park.

Johnson said the shop’s relocation to Prairie Village came, in part, as a way to accommodate Clairvaux’s steady growth.

“(Fairway) been a such a great launch point for the brand,” she said. “But we have two stores now, and we really needed more back-end space just to facilitate the traffic that we were having.”

The new Prairie Village space will be larger than its former Fairway home, which she said will allow Clairvaux to add more fitting rooms and potentially grow its accessory inventory.

In addition to the size factor, Johnson said that she’s also looking forward to Clairvaux being a part of the activity and business community that Prairie Village has to offer.

“It just really kind of checked a lot of boxes for us, with space and having adjacencies with other businesses and restaurants that were really exciting for us,” Johnson said. “I think Prairie Village does a great job of bringing in art fairs and music, and I think I’m really excited for just a little bit more of that kind of culture within the community.”
