Popular sweets shop KCookies coming to southern Overland Park

The new shop inside the Queen's Price Chopper will serve as KCookies' second storefront in Johnson County.

It’s been roughly two years since Olathe-based KCookies took its first leap into brick-and-mortar business.

When owner Christina Jokerst opened KCookies’ first storefront, it was something the popular cookie shop’s customers have been eagerly asking for, she said.

In its two years of operating out of that storefront, many of those regular customers have come from other parts of the metro area to grab their favorite cookies — including from southern Overland Park.

By the end of the year, those particular customers will have their cookies a little closer to home. KCookies has a new store in the works, in a new space inside a grocery store in southern Overland Park.

KCookies is coming to 7201 W. 151st St.

  • The cookie shop is moving into a space at the Queen’s Price Chopper grocery store, just off 151st Street and Metcalf Avenue.
  • If all goes according to plan, Jokerst estimated the shop will be open in its new space by Christmas.
  • Once it does open, KCookies’ Overland Park hours will likely be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

The shop will offer 6-ounce cookies and other treats

The cookies from KCookies come in a variety of flavors, some of which include snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, macadamia nut and St. Louis butter cake.

In addition to cookies, Jokerst said the new Overland Park shop will also offer up to 12 flavors of ice cream as well as coffee drinks.

Though details are still being finalized as far as where the ice cream and coffee will be sourced from, Jokerst said both brands will definitely be recognizable area names.

“We want to keep everything local to Kansas City,” she said.

This marks KCookies’ second Johnson County storefront

Jokerst originally launched KCookies out of her home roughly five years ago. The shop quickly gained popularity through word of mouth and by showing up at pop-up events around the metro area.

To this day, Jokerst said most of the shop’s business comes from its regular customers.

“We already have a lot of very loyal customers,” she said. “It’s been two years (of brick and mortar), and we still haven’t done any advertising. So it’s still very grassroots.”

Expanding to Overland Park was something that Jokerst said had been on her mind for a while. Since customers had been asking for it, she knew there was a demand in the area.

So when she discovered a space was available inside the Queen’s Price Chopper grocery store, she said, she gave it some thought and decided to take the leap.

With the new storefront, she said she’s looking forward to seeing some of the Overland Park customers more often who don’t make it to Olathe as often as they’d like to.

“The opportunity presented itself, and so we took it,” she said. “(We’re excited about) just being able to service more people and reach our customers that, right now, will come here only like once a month.”
