Hot chicken eatery Mother Clucker closes Leawood restaurant, Shawnee location will stay open

The locally owned "Nashville-style" hot chicken joint opened at Leawood's Park Place in summer 2024, it's second Johnson County location.

After roughly a year and a half, a local hot chicken joint has said goodbye to Leawood.

Kansas City-based Mother Clucker, known for “Nashville-style” hot chicken, has closed its doors at Leawood’s Park Place.

Mother Clucker operated at 11635 Ash St.

  • The restaurant occupied a space at the outdoor retail center, just off 115th Street and Nall Avenue in Leawood.
  • Before Mother Clucker moved into that space, it was previously occupied by burger eatery BurgerFi, near coffee shop Outta the Blue and Italian eatery Plate.
  • The restaurant offers its chicken in various forms, including wings, tenders and sandwiches, as well as other items like fried pickles, coleslaw and milkshakes.
  • Customers can order chicken with a range of heat levels, from “OG no heat” all the way up to “What the Cluck?!”, which the restaurant cautions diners “enjoy at their own risk.”
  • At its Leawood location, Mother Clucker also offered craft beers and “boozy” slushies.

  • Husband-and-wife duo, Derrick and Kylie Foster, confirmed the restaurant’s closure via email to the Post.
  • “This has been a devastating loss for our small, family-owned business,” the couple said.
  • Though they declined to comment further on the Leawood location’s closure, they did confirm Mother Clucker’s two other area locations will remain open.

Mother Clucker still has one more Johnson County location

  • The Kansas City-based restaurant still has a location in downtown Shawnee.
  • That location opened in February 2023.
  • Mother Clucker’s original location opened in 2018, inside the Parlor KC food hall in Kansas City’s Crossroads district and remains in business.
