An aviation technology company is opening a new manufacturing facility in Olathe, bringing in more than 140 jobs to the city.
Gov. Laura Kelly announced Monday that Spanish company Indra Group has plans to invest $7.5 million to build a 25,000-square-foot facility at the Great Plains Commerce Center near I-35 and Lone Elm Road.
The facility will manufacture the “next generation” of air traffic surveillance radars and create jobs in engineering, manufacturing and system support, according to a release from the governor’s office.
Years in the making
Local officials said they have been working on securing this partnership for years.
Kansas Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland first visited Indra Group’s headquarters in Madrid, Spain in November 2024. Other leaders including U.S. Representatives Sharice Davids and Ron Estes and State Representative Susan Estes visited in June 2025.
Kelly also met with company executives and toured one of the company’s other radar production facilities in October 2025.
“Our visit to Indra Group’s headquarters in Madrid and the intentional connections made were an important piece to their decision to invest in Kansas,” Kelly said in the release. “Thanks to the strong relationship formed, Kansas is going to be a crucial pillar in expanding Indra Group’s domestic supply chain and technology transfer abilities, while also creating jobs right here in our state.”
Modernizing the National Airspace System
The Federal Aviation Administration awarded Indra Group a $342 million contract to work on modernizing the National Airspace System in order to improve safety, reliability and operational performance.
Olathe already has a major aerospace manufacturing facility. Honeywell’s 560,000-square-foot plant manufactures aviation equipment and electronics including radio systems for traffic control.
In 2024, the company announced plans for an $84 million expansion of the facility.
“Kansas is home to a massive aerospace industry footprint — where we’ve been a pioneer in manufacturing and a driver of aviation-related innovation for generations,” Toland said in a release. “This investment tells a story: that our state is serious about expanding our aerospace dominance.”
