Big Grove Brewery teases May opening at Prairie Village Shops

The Iowa-based brewery's first KC-area location is also set to be the first new tenant to open at the redeveloped Macy's site in Prairie Village.

An Iowa-based taproom and restaurant has officially set its first opening date in Johnson County.

Big Grove Brewery, one of the new tenants at the Prairie Village Macy’s redevelopment at 71st Street and Mission Road, announced this week that it plans to open in Prairie Village in May.

Big Grove Brewery is coming to the Prairie Village Shops

  • The restaurant and brewery is taking over a newly redeveloped space at the Shops of Prairie Village.
  • The site, formerly home to a Macy’s department store, will also eventually house a Hen House grocery store on its ground floor, with Big Grove one of multiple tenants on the upper floor.
  • Besides Big Grove and Hen House, two more retail spaces have yet to be spoken for at the development.

Big Grove Brewery serves craft beer and eats

  • The Iowa-based brewery offers a variety of beers and beer “flights”, in addition to other libations like wine, cocktails and mocktails.
  • On the food side, the restaurant serves entrees like salads, sandwiches, pastas and burgers.
  • Big Grove also offers appetizers like chips and queso, focaccia, fried cheese curds and charcuterie boards.

Big Grove will host a “hiring drive” next week

  • The new Prairie Village restaurant and taproom will be Big Grove’s first location the wider Kansas City metro.
  • The eatery is almost entirely based in Iowa, with one location in Omaha, Nebraska.
  • Preceding the opening, the company will host a three-day “hiring drive” from Monday, April 6, to Wednesday, April 8.
  • The company says it is seeking to fill more than 100 positions for the Prairie Village location.
  • “Opening a new location at The Shops of Prairie Village is an incredible chapter for Big Grove and a wonderful opportunity to become a valued part of this community,” said Andrew Loudon, store director of the new Prairie Village location, in a release this week. “We look forward to welcoming new team members as we prepare to open and get ready for an exciting summer for Big Grove, Prairie Village, and the greater Kansas City market.”
