Overland Park Police say three people were injured in a crash at 127th Street and Switzer Road on Wednesday night.
The crash happened at about 9:15 p.m.
Overland Park Police spokesperson Ofc. John Lacy said one vehicle was traveling southbound on Switzer, another was going eastbound on 127th, and the third was stopped at the intersection, facing northbound on Switzer.
Lacy said the southbound vehicle “disobeyed a red light” and crashed into the eastbound vehicle in the intersection.
The southbound vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz SUV. A Toyota minivan was the one going eastbound. The third involved vehicle that was stopped was another Mercedes-Benz SUV.
The impact spun the Toyota minivan to a stop facing westbound in the median, while both SUVs ended up facing north.
Overland Park firefighters arrived on scene to report that all three vehicles involved had sustained heavy damage, and at least one driver was still inside a vehicle.
Firefighters quickly extricated the driver of the minivan, who was identified only as a man in his early 70s.
Johnson County Med-Act transported him to an area hospital in critical condition.
One of the SUV drivers, identified in radio traffic as a man in his early 30s, was transported by a second ambulance in stable condition.
The Overland Park Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
No other details were immediately available.
