A 22-year-old Olathe woman was killed in a jet ski crash at Perry Lake on Sunday evening.
In a news release, Jefferson County Sheriff Timothy Bacon said deputies responded along with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks at about 6 p.m. Sunday to a reported accident on the lake involving the collision of two water vessels.
The sheriff said Hannah Heflin, 22, of Olathe, was killed in the crash.
Perry Lake covers approximately 11,150 acres and is located about eight miles west of Oskaloosa, or about 15 miles to the northwest of Lawrence.
Bacon said Carter Page, 20, was arrested by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks in connection to the crash.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office online inmate roster shows Page was arrested at 10:26 p.m. on Sunday with a pending charge of vehicular homicide.
He was released, just under two hours later, on a $5,000 bond at 12:21 a.m. on Monday, according to the inmate roster.
Publicly available social media lists Carter Page as a resident of Lancaster, a small city with fewer than 250 residents in Atchison County, Kansas.
As of early Tuesday morning, no formal charges have been filed in relation to Heflin’s death.
Atchison County court records show that Page completed one year of misdemeanor diversion in January 2025 for charges of DUI and transporting an open container.
According to a GoFundMe page, Hannah Heflin recently graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in psychology and intended to pursue her doctorate.
The GoFundMe goes on to say that Heflin died with her girlfriend by her side after 45 minutes of attempted resuscitation.

The GoFundMe says donations will be used to help support the Heflin family with funeral costs and lawyer fees.
As of early Tuesday, the GoFundMe page had raised nearly $6,500.
