An Overland Park man who had been missing since June 2 was found by a recreational diver at Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri.
Overland Park Police spokesperson Ofc. John Lacy announced Monday morning that a recreational diver found Steven Lieurance’s car, a silver 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK 280 hardtop convertible, submerged in Table Rock Lake, prompting a multi-agency response.
Lieurance was last seen on June 2 around 4 p.m. driving his Mercedes-Benz.
He was reported missing after he did not return home from work in Olathe.
In a news release on Thursday, Overland Park Police asked for the public’s assistance in locating Lieurance and his vehicle.
KY3, a television news station in Springfield, Missouri, reported the discovery of the Mercedes-Benz was made on Saturday at Joe Bald Park in Kimberling City, Missouri. The vehicle and Lieurance’s body were then recovered on Sunday.
Kimberling City is a small city of approximately 2,300 people in southwestern Missouri, located approximately 210 miles south of Overland Park.
“Missouri Highway Patrol dive teams subsequently led the recovery efforts, successfully retrieving the vehicle and locating Mr. Lieurance’s body inside, with positive identification confirmed shortly thereafter,” Lacy said in Monday’s news release. “Next of kin have been formally notified, and the family respectfully requests privacy as they grieve during this difficult time.”
The Overland Park Police Department is handling the investigation.
