In Overland Park, a new kind of science lab will soon come to life.
At this lab, the experiments won’t end in steaming beakers. They’ll end with lip gloss.
That’s the idea behind Bespoke Beaute Lab, a new concept coming to downtown Overland Park. Owners Viktoria Volosin and Jason Gullick aim to open the beauty lab in mid-August.
Bespoke Beaute Lab is coming to 7224 W. 79th St.
- The concept is taking over a space on the north side of downtown Overland Park, near the Social Shop.
- The space was previously occupied by facial spa Radiance, which is moving a few doors down into a space formerly occupied by local boutique The Old Mango.
- Though regular hours are still being finalized, Bespoke Beaute Lab will be open by appointment only on Monday and Tuesday, and for both walk-ins and appointments Thursday through Sunday.
Bespoke Beaute Lab will be “science meets self-care”

Through a multi-step process, customers at Bespoke Beaute Lab will create their own lipstick or lipgloss.
The beauty lab will offer an inspiration sheet for shade ideas, or people can try to recreate an existing shade they like to wear. Then customers will choose whether they want a gloss, liquid lipstick or a traditional bullet lipstick.
From there, customers will test shades in real time as the color is added to their base of choice. Then they can add a glittery finish, a signature scent (like vanilla, strawberry or mimosa), and custom additives like plumper, sunscreen or extra moisture.
“Through the journey, it could start out as a pink, and then maybe they try it on and decide, ‘I thought I was going to like this, but I don’t,’” Volosin said. “We can totally evolve that color until they put it on and they’re like, ‘Oh, this is it.’”
Bespoke Beaute Lab is years in the making
The idea for Bespoke Beaute Lab began forming in Volosin’s mind several years ago.
During a girls trip, she and her friends booked an experience at a bar-style lip lab. Their group sipped prosecco, created their own lip gloss, and bonded with the other girls making their own glosses alongside them.
“It was that kind of fun where you’re just automatically best friends,” she recalled.
After that trip, she came back and looked for something similar in Kansas City, but such a thing didn’t seem to exist locally. Volosin briefly considered franchising a similar concept from elsewhere, but she said she almost immediately knew she wanted to create one all her own.
So she and her husband crunched the numbers, found a vendor for the ingredients and equipment, and launched the concept roughly two years ago. Bespoke Beaute Lab began first as a private event concept at things like bachelorette parties and birthdays.
From there, the concept began making pop-up appearances throughout the Kansas City metro area. Soon enough, customers who’d experienced it at different pop-ups began to ask when they might open a permanent space.
Almost as soon as they knew they wanted a permanent space at all, Volosin said, she and Gullick knew they wanted it in downtown Overland Park.
“We just thought that it was such a growing area, and just so special and unique,” she said.
Beyond the first storefront, Volosin said she hopes to expand the concept in more ways than one. That could look like more locations in both the Kansas City market or other Midwestern markets, and also expansion with more products like custom blushes.
For now, finishing touches are underway on what she hopes can be a place where people find not only their new favorite lip gloss, but a newfound sense of confidence.
“The world’s hard right now,” Volosin said. “I want people to (be able to) have a little self-care day, feel beautiful and confident, and walk away with something unique to them that you can’t buy off the shelf.”
