Shawnee PD touts drug arrests on consecutive days. What charges have been filed?

The department posted on Facebook about two separate incidents on June 30 and July 1 involving the possession of drugs and other possible felonies.

Shawnee Police arrested four people in two separate incidents over the past week involving drugs.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the first incident took place at about at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, after a reported shoplifting in the 15400 block of Shawnee Mission Parkway.

“One suspect was taken into custody inside a nearby business,” Shawnee PD’s Facebook post said. “A second suspect was located hiding in the fitting room of another business and was also taken into custody.”

Police say they located approximately $2,600 worth of stolen merchandise from multiple stores, along with methamphetamine, fentanyl, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia.

Online court records show Zachary Schworer, 32, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Gage Bryant, 36, with no permanent address, were arrested in that incident.

Schworer has been charged with a single felony count of theft of property or services valued between $1,500 and $25,000.

He posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody on Friday, with his next court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.

Bryant has been charged with two felonies: theft of property or services valued between $1,500 and $25,000 and use/possess with intent to use drug paraphernalia.

He remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance is set for Wednesday.

A second incident but no charges filed

In another Facebook post later in the week, the Shawnee Police Department says that at about 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop near Johnson Drive and Rosehill Road, but the driver did not stop.

Photos shared on the department’s Facebook page show officers used a Grappler Police Bumper to bring the suspect vehicle to a stop on westbound Johnson Drive near Mullen Road.

Police say two people were taken into custody for that incident, as well.

“During the investigation, officers seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, and suspected manufacturing components from inside the vehicle,” police said in the Facebook post.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office booking logs show that a 63-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, was booked into the Adult Detention Center on a pending felony possession charge.

Officers also arrested a 37-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, woman who was booked on a misdemeanor charge of driving without liability insurance.

Formal charges have not been filed in Johnson County District Court.

Shawnee Police say the driver was arrested for possession of fentanyl and driving under the influence, while the passenger was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

“Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues,” police said in the Facebook post.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Office jail records show that both women were released from custody on Thursday.

The 37-year-old driver of the car was released on a $500 personal recognizance bond, otherwise known as a signature bond. She is scheduled to appear in Shawnee Municipal Court on August 19.

The 63-year-old woman was issued a release order. No other details about her release are available, and no future court dates have been scheduled.
