In a Leawood space that once served fried chicken, eggs are frying and mimosas are pouring.
Popular brunch spot AR’s has officially celebrated its grand opening at the former Mother Clucker space at Leawood’s Park Place.
AR’s opened at 11635 Ash St.
- The restaurant opened inside a space on the south side of the Park Place shopping center, which is just off 115th Street and Nall Avenue in Leawood.
- Mother Clucker occupied that space for roughly a year and a half before it closed at the end of 2025.
- AR’s is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
AR’s serves breakfast and brunch classics
The restaurant is known for a variety of Mexican-inspired breakfast dishes both sweet and savory.
So far, owner Oscar Romero said some of the best-sellers at the new Leawood spot have been the chilaquiles and the “Cha Cha Cha” omelet (with grilled chicken, sliced avocado, jalapeños, grilled onions and pepper jack cheese).
On the sweeter side, the restaurant also serves items like horchata waffles, churro pancakes and caramel crepes.
The restaurant also serves a variety of brunch cocktails — including bloody marys, espresso martinis, and “giant” mimosas that have two full bottles of champagne in them.
In addition to breakfast dishes, the new Leawood location also offers some brand new lunch items like chicken and bacon wraps, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, cobb salads and sliders.
The menu isn’t the only new aspect of the Leawood location. It’s also the largest one to date, which Romero said opens the door to bigger events and gatherings that other AR’s locations haven’t been able to accommodate.
“The exciting part about this one is we can accommodate large parties,” Romero said. “You come in (to other locations) and ask for a 20-top, you’re probably gonna wait like two to three hours. Those groups of people that sometimes wait longer because they have a bigger party can just come in here and sit, and still have room.”
This marks the third AR’s in Johnson County
AR’s — named after owner Oscar Romero’s father, Anivar Romero — opened its flagship location in downtown Overland Park in 2023.
Another location followed in Olathe, though that one has since closed due to the Santa Fe and I-35 corridor overhaul project.
Romero said he hopes to bring AR’s back to Olathe before the end of this year or early next year. Where and when exactly it will reopen has yet to be determined.
For now, he’s excited for AR’s to begin its next chapter in Leawood — a city he’d hoped to expand the restaurant to for a long time.
“Leawood is a great city,” he said. “We put a lot of effort into this one.”
