Police investigate online ‘school shooting’ threat against Blue Valley West

A user's comment that they were "gonna start a school shooting" on Monday was reposted to X. The Blue Valley district is out of session for the summer.

Overland Park Police confirm they’re investigating an online threat made against Blue Valley West High School over the weekend.

The threat was posted in a chat on Twitch, a live-streaming platform used largely by gamers.

An account with the username “jude_pp” posted that they were “gonna start a school shooting July 6, 2026 Blue Valley West High School Kansas remember my name is Jude.”

The post was made in the Twitch chat of Norwegian gamer Zeroxy, who took a screenshot of the message and posted it to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, asking for someone in Kansas to assist them in reporting the comment to police.

Zeroxy made the X post at about 4:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, July 4. It gained some 13,000 shares and 1,000 comments.

The Twitch account that made the threat appears to have been banned or deleted from the platform.

Overland Park Police spokesperson Ofc. John Lacy confirmed to the Post that the department, along with Blue Valley School District Police, was notified of the threat by community members after it was posted to X.

“We are looking into this incident, as is the Blue Valley Police Department,” Lacy told the Post. “Blue Valley West was the only school in Overland Park that received a threat.”

Lacy says that with school out for the summer, there were no students in the building, and no events were scheduled there on Monday, the date identified by the original Twitch threat.

Anyone with information that may assist police is encouraged to contact Overland Park Police at 913-895-6300 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
