On Thursday, July 23rd, The Golden Scoop received a $10,000 contribution grant from BOK Financial! This is an amazing contribution that will enable us to continue supporting our equally amazing Super Scoopers, and we are incredibly grateful for their generosity and future partnership! BOK Financial (BOKF) presented The Golden Scoop with the check at a presentation ceremony hosted at our 103rd Street location in Overland Park.

I spoke with Katie Hall, Vice President of Community Relations at BOKF, about our burgeoning relationship and her thoughts on why BOKF decided to award The Golden Scoop such a generous contribution. Katie specified that it was actually the employees of BOKF who chose us as the awardee!

“Our employees decided!” said Katie. “Golden Scoop received a record amount of votes in our annual Guide the Giving contest. It’s clear that many of our voters believe in the Golden Scoop mission and the work you’re doing to create an environment nurturing employees and serving up some of Kansas City’s best ice cream.”

I asked what her thoughts on our mission were, and she said, “We think your mission is important to the individuals who are working, their families and our community as a whole. Meaningful employment for all doesn’t just help the employee feel fulfilled, it helps our community succeed and grow. Employing uniquely abled individuals is a benefit for everyone involved – the employee, the employer and the community. Employees of all types of backgrounds help businesses serve thoughtfully and with every perspective.”

Asked whether BOKF themselves employ any uniquely abled individuals, Katie responded, “We do. It’s important to build a diverse workforce and understand what it means to learn about each other and delivery the best customer product or experience together.”
I asked how BOKF became involved with The Golden Scoop. “Mike Sears [BOKF’s Senior Trust Officer] had known about The Golden Scoop for a while and enjoyed their ice cream,” said Katie. Always a great start to a relationship! She continued: “A mutual business acquaintance introduced him to Amber and he decided it would be a great idea nominate Golden Scoop for the BOK Financial Guide the Giving contest. Our employees nominate and then vote for the organization that they feel is deserving of a $10,000 grant.”

Asked where she hopes our partnership will lead, Katie said, “We are hoping to partner with The Golden Scoop to provide educational and networking opportunities to families with special need family members, and business people who work with those families . . . We hope this is the beginning of a wonderful partnership.”
