Man struck by vehicle while crossing Nieman Road in Shawnee

He was transported to a hospital in stable condition; the driver stayed on scene while police investigated.

Shawnee Police say a man is in stable condition after being hit by a vehicle on Nieman Road just before 9 a.m.

It happened near the mid-block pedestrian crossing in the 5600 block of Nieman.

Recorded radio traffic states that a man in his late 70s was crossing the street with his wife when he was hit by a vehicle.

Police say the man was transported by a Johnson County Med-Act ambulance to an area hospital in stable condition.

The driver stopped and remained on scene with officers.

Officers closed both directions of Nieman Road for a time as they investigated the crash.

The police department’s traffic safety unit is investigating.

No other details have been released.
