No one was injured in a crash that forced the closure of southbound U.S. 69 Highway in Overland Park on Thursday evening.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the crash at about 5:20 p.m.
Recorded radio traffic from arriving fire department units reported a five-vehicle crash with one person being evaluated for injuries.
The crash was just south of the bridge that carries US-69 over 139th Street.
Because the crashed vehicles were spread across multiple lanes, police closed southbound US-69 and diverted all traffic to 135th Street.
The crash and highway closure caused traffic to back up more than three miles to 119th Street.
Real-time KC Scout cameras showed it took a truck driver 20 minutes to cover the mile between Blue Valley Parkway and 135th Street because of stalled traffic.
Everyone involved refused transport to a hospital by ambulance, according to radio traffic.
The southbound lanes reopened at 135th Street at 6:20 p.m. as multiple tow trucks worked to remove the damaged vehicles from the left two lanes.
Crash cleanup was complete, and all lanes reopened just before 6:45.
No other details were immediately available.
