An Overland Park chiropractor faces 10 years in federal prison for health care fraud.
Kenya Laser, 35, of Overland Park, recently entered a guilty plea in federal court for the health care fraud that prosecutors say was committed during a three-year period from March 2022 to March 2025.
Laser Chiropractic’s website and social media list a location at 11720 W. 135th St. in Overland Park. The address is in the Quivira Crossings shopping center, on the northeast corner of 135th Street and Quivira Road.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Laser was a provider with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC).
“Beginning around March 2022 and continuing until around March 2025, Laser carried out a scheme to receive payments from Blue KC for health care services that were not provided as billed,” the release says. “Laser submitted insurance claims to Blue KC seeking payment for services that were purportedly rendered to patients on dates for which Laser knew the patients had not visited Laser Chiropractic and received no medical treatment.”
The maximum sentence for the charges would be 10 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole.
The news release says the court will determine Laser’s sentence based on “the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.”
A date for her sentencing will only be set after the United States Probation Office completes a presentence investigation.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Missouri.
