Just a few months after the closure of a burger restaurant at Oak Park Mall, something new is on the way.
The owners of the mall off 95th Street and Quivira Road in Overland Park announced the new tenant this week: Añejo Modern Mexican Cuisine.
Añejo is coming to 11149 W. 95th St.
- The restaurant will take over a space near a north entrance to the Overland Park mall.
- There, it will operate near bookseller Barnes & Noble and Noodles & Company at the mall.
- According to a release, the restaurant aims to open at the mall in early 2027.
Añejo serves “modern Mexican cuisine” and craft cocktails
The menu at Añejo offers a variety of “signature” dishes like steak fajitas, cactus skillets, chile verde burritos, and chicken enchiladas.
Previously, the Mexican eatery had a location at 16411 W. 119th St. in Olathe. That location has since closed.
“Being selected to join one of Kansas City’s most iconic destinations is an honor we don’t take lightly,” said Angel Martin Ortiz, founder of Añejo, via a release. “As Oak Park Mall enters an exciting new chapter, we’re grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside it and bring the Añejo experience to Johnson County. We can’t wait to welcome guests and continue serving the community that has supported us every step of the way.”
The addition comes on the heels of other potential big changes to the Oak Park Mall, as Tennessee-based CBL Properties forms initial plans to add new dining, apartments, retail and more.

Five Guys closed in July
- The Virginia-based chain had operated its Oak Park Mall restaurant for more than 15 years at the time of its closure.
- In Overland Park, Five Guys still has locations at 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue, and at the Bluhawk development (at 159th Street and U.S. Highway 69).
- Outside of Overland Park, Five Guys also has locations in Olathe and Shawnee.
