Former Fairway public works buildings fall to make way for new dental clinic

Crews have razed the three buildings that sat on the former Fairway public works site on Shawnee Mission Parkway.

The building that for decades housed the city of Fairway’s public works facilities has been razed and the site cleared to make way for a new business building.

Crews this month finished demolition of the old public works buildings to make way for the construction of a new facility that will house a dental practice.

The Fairway City Council approved the sale of the property in 2015.

In 2015, Fairway entered a long-term lease for a building in the Roeland Park industrial complex just off Roe Avenue on Roe Parkway as the new home for its public works operations. The larger site — it sits on 2.33 acres instead of the 1/3 acre site at Buena Vista and Shawnee Mission Parkway — provided both more office space and more storage and work space for public works crews.

Roeland Park, which has its public works facilities near the Fairway facility, has a partnership with Fairway that allows its crews to access a salt dome on the Fairway property for road treatment during inclement weather.
