Friends working to raise money for family of SM East student in coma after car wreck

Friends of Alex Carney, one of the three SM East students injured in a car wreck on Cherokee Drive in Prairie Village last week, have organized an effort to raise money to support the family as Carney’s parents miss work to care for him.

Tyler Rains, a SM West student, pointed people to a GoFundMe campaign for the Carneys over the weekend.

“My friend Alex Carney was in a really bad car accident and is in a medically induced coma,” Tyler wrote on Twitter. “His father is a contractor and his mother a para at a school. When they are gone they don’t get paid. They need all the help they can get.”

The campaign seeks to raise $10,000 for the family, and since going live Feb. 8 has raised nearly $9,300.

You can donate to the campaign on the GoFundMe page here.
