Swig, a Utah-based “dirty” soda company, wants to open a Mission location.
The soda chain, made popular by social media platforms like TikTok, is eyeing the property at 5959 Barkley St. in Mission, which is across the street from Diamond Finish Car Wash.
Swig wants to make the Mission shop a drive-thru
- This comes after Swig’s plans to bring a location to 91st Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park were approved by the city’s planning commission earlier this year.
- The preliminary development plan that the Utah company submitted also calls for a walk-up window.
- There are also plans for outdoor seating, a parklet and extensive landscaping, according to the city website.
- This location would be near a pop-up nursery at the gazebo off Martway and Barkley streets, called Kaw Valley Greenhouses.
‘Dirty’ sodas are mixed with syrups, creams
- The menu takes classic sodas like Dr. Pepper, Coke or Mountain Dew and adds flavored syrups and different creams to make them “dirty” sodas.
- The drink called Big Al, for example, adds coconut and fresh lime to Diet Coke, whereas the drink named DDD adds coconut to Dr. Pepper.
- There are also energy drinks, refreshers, hot chocolates, sweet treats and pretzel bites on Swig’s menu.
- View a full version of Swig’s menu online here.

Next steps:
- The Mission Planning Commission is scheduled to host a public hearing Monday, June 26, for Swig.
- The preliminary development plan will also be considered by the planning commission Monday night.
- The meeting is from 7 to 9 p.m. at city hall, 6090 Woodson St. Planning commission meetings are not recorded or live streamed in Mission.
