A former Lexington Trails Middle School paraprofessional pleaded guilty to a felony charge of unlawful sexual relations with a student.
On Wednesday in Johnson County District Court, Kassidy Alexander pleaded guilty to the Class 5 felony. Judge Michael P. Joyce is the presiding judge.
Between July 25, 2023, and March 19, 2024, Alexander had consensual sexual intercourse with a student at least 16 years old at the school, a criminal complaint stated. She will have to register as a sex offender, according to court records.
Alexander was a paraprofessional at the middle school, which is part of USD 232 in De Soto.
Alexander was the student’s middle school coach
The victim met Alexander when he was in eighth grade, as she was his cross-country coach, court documents stated. When he became a high school student, he would also babysit her children.
In summer 2023, their relationship turned from friendly to sexual, and they engaged in sex multiple times between July 2023 and March 2024, court documents stated. At the time, Alexander was 26 and the victim was 17. During this time, Alexander’s husband was deployed.
In May, the victim’s parents were getting suspicious of their son’s behavior, as he was sneaking over to her house at night and lying about what he was doing, according to court records. Eventually, he admitted they were having a sexual relationship.
After the crimes were reported, a search of both of their cell phones by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office discovered photos of them hugging, kissing, in sexual situations and expressing their love for each other, court documents stated.
The district was made aware of the relationship in May
On May 14, district administration was made aware of the inappropriate relationship between Alexander and a male high school student.
“Based on this information, the school district acted immediately to protect and care for those involved by suspending the employee in question,” the district stated in a press release. “Upon being suspended, the individual immediately resigned their employment.”
The district was aware that the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the allegations but was asked not to release any information to protect the integrity of the case.
“The district is not privy to details of the law enforcement investigation, nor did the district have any knowledge of inappropriate behavior, however, offered its full cooperation to law enforcement,” the district stated in a press release at the time.
Alexander is now on house arrest
On Aug. 7, Alexander posted a $75,000 bond and was placed on house arrest, according to court records.
Her bond conditions include no illegal drug use. She must also submit to drug testing when directed.
She is also being monitored via GPS and is instructed to have no contact with the victim or go within 100 yards of the victim’s residence or place of employment.
