After roughly two and half years, an outdoor retailer is leaving Overland Park — and Johnson County as a whole.
Arkansas-based Gearhead Outfitters will close its Oak Park Mall store this week, which was the brand’s last store in Johnson County.
Gearhead Outfitters was at 11469 W. 95th St.
- The store occupied a space on the lower level of the mall, which is just off 95th Street and Quivira Road in Overland Park.
- There, it operated next to the space that will soon be occupied by athletic apparel store JD Sports.
- Gearhead Outfitters opened its Oak Park Mall store at the end of 2023.
- “After careful consideration, the company made the difficult decision to close the location in response to the current economic environment,” the company said via a statement. “Gearhead Outfitters is grateful for the support of its customers, employees, and the Overland Park community throughout the years. It has been an honor to serve the community, and the company sincerely appreciates everyone who has been part of its Oak Park store.”
Another Gearhead Outfitters closed last year
- In 2025, the Arkansas-based brand closed another Johnson County store at 686 N. Central St. in Olathe.
- That store operated for roughly a year before its closure.
- Before Gearhead Outfitters occupied its Olathe space, it was previously home to fellow outdoor retailer Moosejaw.
Another closure is coming at Oak Park Mall
- Later this month, burger chain Five Guys will also close its doors at the Oak Park Mall.
- Five Guys has occupied its Oak Park Mall space for more than 15 years.
- Officials with CBL Properties, the owners of the mall, have said a replacement for Five Guys is already on the way and will be announced soon.
