After roughly eight months, a locally owned coffee shop has left its Shawnee space.
This week, Brew Haha Coffeehouse closed its shop off Shawnee Mission Parkway — the latest in a growing number of businesses to say goodbye to that particular space in the last few years.
Brew Haha operated at 13655 W. 63rd St.
- The shop occupied a space just off Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm Road in Shawnee.
- There, it operated near Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant and Sonic Drive-In.
- Brew Haha opened in Shawnee in February.
The owner said the shop was not financially sustainable
Though Brew Haha’s Overland Park location is “doing just fine”, owner Jason Presley said revenue in Shawnee never quite caught up to the Shawnee shop’s expenses.
“After six months of going negative, it actually started getting even slower than it had been,” he said this week. “We just had to make the hard decision that we can’t keep putting money into it.”
Though Brew Haha’s mobile coffee trailer will still make appearances across the metro area (including potentially in Shawnee), Presley said, Shawnee customers will otherwise have to head to Overland Park for their favorite Brew Haha drinks and treats.
“We appreciated the support, but ultimately business is business, and we’ve got to make money to keep the place open,” he said. “We’re definitely gonna keep working at Shawnee with the mobile venues and everything like that, and they can always come see us at (Overland Park).”
The space has housed several other businesses
The closure marks the latest in high turnover for the site, tucked off Shawnee Mission Parkway.
Before Brew Haha opened there, it was home to on-the-go pasta eatery Simon’s Pasta. Before that, Saints Pub Express also had a short run there.
