Overland Park’s Bluhawk is getting 2 new restaurants

French cafe chain La Madeleine and local eatery Five Four will open new locations at the growing southern Overland Park development.

The ever-growing Bluhawk development has two new eateries on the way.

This month, the southern Overland Park development announced the incoming arrival of locally owned Five Four Restaurant & Drafthouse, and French bakery and cafe chain La Madeleine.

Five Four serves “scratch-made” eats and craft cocktails

The menu at Five Four offers dishes like “double smashed” cheeseburgers, prime rib French dip sandwiches, chicken fried chicken, and spinach and artichoke pasta.

Five Four also serves a variety of crack cocktails like palomas, aperol spritzes, champagne margaritas and “Cuban” mojitos.

The new Bluhawk location will serve as the third Johnson County location for the Kansas City, Missouri-based restaurant. Five Four has another location in Olathe, and another one will open later this year in Lenexa.

“Kansas City has been an important part of our growth, and Bluhawk gives us an opportunity to build on that presence in a location with a strong mix of sports, retail and entertainment,” said Michael Norsworthy, owner of Five Four Restaurant Drafthouse, via a release. “We’re excited to become part of what’s taking shape here and serve both the surrounding community and visitors from across the region.”

La Madeleine serves French-inspired sweets and eats

The bakery and cafe chain is known for dishes like toasted caprese sandwiches, French onion soup, egg and cheese crepes, and chicken cordon bleu pasta.

La Madeleine also serves sweets like macarons and creme brulee, as well as coffee drinks like cappuccinos, mochas and lattes.

The new Overland Park location will be the first Johnson County franchise for the Texas-based chain.

It will be owned and operated by franchisee Eddie Musallet, who also owns local grocer El Mercado Fresco. (He owns two Johnson County stores: World Fresh Market in Overland Park, and Fresh Market in Shawnee.)

“As we look to grow La Madeleine in the Kansas City market, Bluhawk stood out as a prime location for the brand,” Musallet said in the release. “The development’s reach and continued momentum make it a natural fit for connecting new guests and establishing a presence in the region.”

Bluhawk is undergoing a lot of retail growth

Five Four and La Madeleine mark the latest in a growing line of new businesses to the Bluhawk development, off U.S. Highway 69 and 159th Street in southern Overland Park.

On the food and drink side, other incoming additions include two other Kansas City, Missouri-based names — boba tea shop Bruu Cafe and organic eatery Billie’s Grocery.

“Five Four Restaurant & Drafthouse and La Madeleine each bring something different to Bluhawk and complement the mix we’re building across the development,” said Kent Price, president of Price Brothers, the developer and manager of Bluhawk, via a release. “Whether they’re here for a tournament, shopping or meeting for a meal, these additions give guests another reason to stay, explore and experience more of the destination.”
