5 to Try: What’s the best comfort food in Johnson County? Tell us your picks

For this week’s “5 to Try,” we want to get all warm and cozy feeling.

It’s that time of year, when many of us think of the comforts of home heading into the holiday season, so we want our readers’ picks for best comfort food in Johnson County..

First maybe, some definitions.

The term “comfort food” has been in wide usage since at least the 1960s, and in some of its original coinages was meant to describe something eaters turn to, either in times of stress or filled with nostalgia, to recapture “the security of childhood” through their palate.

So, basically whatever gives you comfort is your “comfort food.”

Usually, here in the Midwest, we think of hearty, stick-to-your-ribs dishes like mashed potatoes, beef Stroganoff or chicken noodle soup.

Maybe you are thinking of something from the grill, like a sizzling hamburger or a fried dumpling.

Or  maybe it’s something that simply captures the essence of the meals you remember growing up with, wherever you come from.

Whatever’s in your comfort zone, we want to hear it.
