? Happening today
Roeland Park Mayor Mike Kelly is expected to formally submit his resignation at tonight’s city council meeting, and the city council will then elect one of their own members to serve as interim mayor.
In November, Kelly was elected to be the next chair of the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners and is set to be sworn in to that role on Monday, Jan. 9.
The interim mayor will serve until voters elect a new permanent mayor in November 2023, according to revised city code adopted by the city council in October.
The council will also eventually select a person to fill the city council vacancy created by the selection of an interim mayor.
